A PASSOVER SEDER HAGGADAH

A PASSOVER SEDER

order of worship

Meditation:

"Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had

been slain, standing in the center of the throne,

encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. . . And they sang a new song:

‘You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slain, and with your

blood you purchased men for God from

every tribe and language and people and nation.

You have made them to be a kingdom and

priests to serve our God, and they

will reign on earth. . .

Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain,

to receive power and wealth and wisdom and

strength and honor and glory and praise!. . .

To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb

be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!"

(Rev. 5:6-13)

CALL TO WORSHIP: "Enter His Gates"

I will enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart,

I will enter His courts with praise.

I will say this is the day that the Lord has made,

I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

He has made me glad, He has made me glad.

I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

He has made me glad, He has made me glad,

I will rejoice for He has made me glad.

FOUR QUESTIONS: RETELLING THE STORY

RESPONSIVE READING: "DAYENU"

[Note: DA-YE-NU (pronounced Dah-yay-new), means we should have been satisfied.]

[In unison:] The Lord is my strength and my song. And He has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise Him my Father’s God and I will exalt Him.

DA-YE-NU

[Read responsively]

Had He brought us out of Egypt, and not divided the sea for us,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He divided the sea, and not permitted us to cross on dry land,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He permitted us to cross the sea on dry land, and not sustained us for forty years in the desert, and not fed us with manna,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He permitted us to cross the sea on dry land, and not sustained us for forty years in the desert, and not fed us with manna,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He fed us manna, and not ordained the Sabbath,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He ordained the Sabbath, and not led us to the land of Isaiah,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He brought us to Mount Sinai, and not given us the Torah,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He given us the Torah, and not led us to the land of Israel,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He led us to the land of Israel, and not built the Temple,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He built the Temple, and not sent us the prophets,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He sent us the prophets, and not made us a holy people,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He made us a holy people, and not sent us the Messiah Jesus Christ,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He sent us Jesus, and not given Him to die for our sins,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He given Jesus to die for our sins, and not raised Him to life,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He raised Him to life, and not caused Him to send us His Spirit,

DA-YE-NU!

Had He sent us His Holy Spirit, and not blessed us with His presence,

DA-YE-NU!-We should have been satisfied!

SONG: "THERE IS A FOUNTAIN"

There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Emanuel’s veins,

And sinners plunged beneath that flood, loose all their guilty stains,

Loose all their guilty stains, loose all their guilty stains.

And sinners plunged beneath that flood, loose all their guilty stains.

Group: . . . the name of the Lord is to be praised.

Leader: The Lord is exalted over all the nations. His glory is above the heavens. Who is like the Lord our God, the one who sits enthroned on high, who stoops down to look on the heavens and the earth?

Group: He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of their people.

Leader: He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children.

Leader and Group: Praise the Lord!

Leader: When Israel came out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of foreign tongue, Judah became God’s sanctuary, Israel his dominion.

Group: The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back! The mountains skipped like rams, the hillls like lambs!

Leader: Why was it, O sea, that you fled, O Jordan, that you turned back, you mountains, that you skipped like rams, you hills, like lambs?

Group: Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob who turned the rock into a pool,

the hard rock into springs of water!

Leader and Group: Blessed are you, O Lord our God, King of the universe, who makes the fruit of the vien. Thank you for declaring us righteous and delivering us from your judgment and wrath.

SONG: "THE OLD RUGGED CROSS"

On a hill far away stood an old rugged Cross,

the emblem of suffering and shame; And I love that old Cross,

where the dearest and best for a world of lost sinners was slain.

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,

Till my trophies at last I lay down.

I will cling to the old rugged cross,

And exchange it someday for a crown.

SONG: "Watch the Lamb" [Words and music by Ray Boltz]

Walking on the road to Jerusalem

The time had come to sacrifice again

My two small sons they walked beside me on the road

The reason that they came was to watch the lamb.

Daddy, daddy what will we see there

There’s so much we don’t understand

So I told them of Moses and Father Abraham

And then I said dear children watch the lamb.

For there will be so many in Jerusalem today

W must be sure the lamb doesn’t run away

And I told them of Moses and Father Abraham

And then I said dear children watch the lamb.

When we reached the city I knew something must be wrong

There were no joyful worshippers no joyful worship songs

I stood there with my children in the midst of angry men

And then I heard the crowd cry out crucify Him.

We tried to leave the city but we could not get away

Forced to play in this drama a part I did not wish to play

Why upon this day were men condemned to die

Why were we standing here where soon they would pass by.

I looked and said even now they come

The first one cried for mercy, the people gave him none.

The second one was violent, he was arrogant and loud

I still can hear his angry voice screaming at the crowd.

Then someone said there’s Jesus and I scarced believed my eyes

A man so badly beaten He barely looked alive

Blood poured from His body from the thorns upon His brow

Running down the cross and falling to the ground.

I watched Him as He struggled I watched Him as He fell

The cross came down upon His back, the crowd began to yell

In that moment I felt such agony in that moment I felt such loss

Until a Roman soldier grabbed my arm and screamed "you carry His cross"

At first I tried to resist him then his hand reached for his sword

And so I knelt and took the cross from the Lord

I placed it on my shoulder and started down the street

The blood that He’d been shedding was running down my cheek

They led us to Golgotha they drove nails deep in His feet and hands

And yet upon the cross I heard Him pray "Father forgive them"
