(1J3B) John Ratcliff,Jr.,b. Talbot Co., Md., 1725, d. Chatham Co., N. C.,

(1J3D) Moses Ratcliff, b. Talbot Co., N. C., 1722-1730. (His name appears in
Johnston Co., N. C. deeds, 1754, also on 1769 Tax List, Dobbs Co., N. C.)
Moses may have married a Mary Farmer, dau of Henry & Sarah (Ward) Farmer and
granddaughter of Elizabeth (Elam) Ward. (Moses named a son Elam).
(1J3E) Benjamin Ratcliff, thought to be a son of John & Sarah, (no
proof) probably born in Talbot Co., Md., 1725-1730, sold land in Johnston

Porter, Johnston Co., N. C. (no proof).
(1J3F) Wm Ratcliff, probably a son, b. Talbot Co., Md., ca 1730. His name
appears on the Dobbs Co., N. C., Tax List of 1769, so he was born before
1753.

(1J3B5) Jesse Ratcliff, b. on the Ratcliff plantation, RATCLIFF'S CHANCE,
about five miles west of Kinston, N. C., and near the Lower Falling Creek
Society of Friends Meeting House, and near the confluence of Lower
Falling Creek and the Neuce River, 28 Mar 1759, d. Randolph Co., N. C., 15
June 1787 (101a)(114b)(151) of a snake bite. (Appendix D, Item #14). Jesse
may have been buried at Napton Friends Burial Grounds, also probably the
site of a Friends Meeting House ca 1790-1800, as there was a Napton
Preparatory Meeting. This cemetery is about three miles south of Siler City,
N. C. Jesse was more likely buried at Rocky River Friends Church burial
grounds in Randolph Co., N. C. Jesse was disowned by the Cane Creek
Monthly Meeting of Friends, 7 July 1781 (102c) probably for marrying outside
the church. (He may have married a Sarah Diggs.) We know he was married and
had two children from his Will of 1787, Randolph Co., N. C., but their names
were not given. (For more data on Jesse contact Mrs. Jean Hield, 10922
Cherry St., Kansas City, Mo.) Also see will of John Ratcliff, Chatham Co. NC
(1J3B6) Edom Ratcliff, b. probably on the Ratcliff plantation, RATCLIFF'S
CHANCE, 24 Oct 1761 (114b) d. Union Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, 9 Sept 1823
(102f) or 9 Oct 1823 (112g) buried at Turtle Creek Friends Meeting House,
later called Greenbury Meeting, burial grounds later called "Britton
Cemetery" and since 1871, when Michael Fetterling owned the surrounding land
this Friends burial grounds has been called "Fetterling Cemetery." Edom m.
Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, Society of Friends, Chatham Co., N. C., 1786,
3m, 15d or 15 Mar 1786, Rachell Cashatt, dau of John & Margaret Cashatt
(102c). Edom Ratliff appears as the head of a household in the 1790 & 1800
U. S. Census, Chatham Co., N. C. Edom Ratcliff appears on the 1807 Census,
Highland Co., Ohio. Scott's HISTORY OF HIGHLAND CO., OHIO, page 88,
indicates that Edom RATCLIFF settled on Turtle Creek in the fall of 1804.
Edom RATCLIFF sold 259 acres on Blood Run, near Siler City, N. C., to John
Piggott, 31 Dec 1803, for 300 pounds, Vol. N, pp. 347-348, Chatham Co.,
deeds. "Edom RATCLIFF of Highland Co., Ohio, sold 25 acres on Blood Run &
Brush Creek (near Siler City) to John Piggott, for $66.00, deed dated Sept
8, 1809." (109q)
William's HISTORY OF ROSS & HIGHLAND CO., OHIO, reads as follows:"Amos
Ratcliff, Thomas Ratcliff, Edom Ratcliff & Abner Ratcliff came from N. C., &
made extensive purchases on Turtle Creek, in the northern part of Union
Twp., Highland Co., Ohio, and were among the most desirable citizens of the
Northwest Region, and like most of the settlers from N. C., were Quakers."
Cane Creek Monthly Meeting of Friends, Chatham Co., N.C., granted a
certificate of transfer for Edom & his family to the Fairfield MM, Highland
Co., Ohio, l809, 10m, 7d or 7 Oct 1809.
At one time it seemed that Edom & family bought land and settled near his
brother, John, on Salt Creek, near Londonderry, Ohio, but now it seems more
likely that Edom went on to Highland Co. perhaps in late 1804.
